Half way through
Reached an important milestone in my writing of Siege yesterday: half-way through the first draft. My own pet theory is that most unfinished novels are abandones at or about half-way through. It is at that point in which the writer encounterss the "muddle in the middle", where it seems that all the plot threads are destined to diverge, never again coming anywhere remotely near a unified ending.
It's where you think the action is moving too slowly, where you swear that every line of dialogue you write is of no interest to the potential reader. It's a place where you are seriously tempted to rewrite and reorganize instead of forging ahead. in short, it is the moment in which you need to grit your teeth and get the thing done. There will be plenty of time to rewrite once you have that draft in hand.
My teeth are gritted.
